The method involves signalling a connection request (CALL) to a control unit of a first communication network (NET1). The control unit identifies whether sufficient capacity exists for the connection. The connection is set up by the control unit via a second communication network (NET2) when the capacity is not sufficient due to the assigned parameters (PA) of the requesting terminal (TEA). Preferably, the request is signalled by a terminal of the first communication network for a connection to a terminal (TEB) of the first network. The parameters indicate whether it is permitted to set up an alternative connection.
