Axisymmetric deformations with a high deformation degree can be obtained by performing lateral extrusion on a partially heated metal workpiece (1000). The hardness obtained as a result of simultaneous cold and hot deformation makes it possible to perform final stamping of the components and avoid individual heat treatments. According to the invention, the workpiece (100) is fed to a matrix (20) and pressed by a stamp (10) with a force F. Local heating is effected using a method known per se prior to lateral extrusion, wherein targeted heat effect (30) is adapted to the deformation behavior of the workpiece (100). Advantageously, targeted cooling of the workpiece (110) after the forming process is achieved by the local effect of a coolant.
