According to the invention, in a metallic shielded housing (1) comprising one or more wave guide couplings (2), a wave guide wave is coupled to certain types of defect wave guides within a photonic crystalline structure arranged in the shielded housing, at a predetermined interval frequency and in a manner which is almost free from reflection in order to form an arrangement for targeted excitation of defect resonance in two and three-dimensional photonic crystals. It can thus advantageous to excite a defect resonance inside the photonic crystal structure having a defined coupling strength. The photonic crystal can be produced lithographically.
