First plausible maximum estimates (CML) are prepared. Several sets of Wiener filter coefficients are stored in memory (MM). Each is pre-calculated from predetermined sets of mobile terminal speeds and signal power. A continuous autocorrelation function (J0) of the extinction coefficients is used. Mobile velocity (MSV, MSU) and signal powers are estimated for each path. A set of pre-calculated Wiener filter coefficients (Nw) is selected for each path, starting from results of comparison between velocity and signal power on one hand and the corresponding predetermined values on the other. Extinction coefficients (c) are determined by filtration of the first corresponding estimates (CML) using the selected, pre-calculated sets of Wiener coefficients. Independent claims are included for a corresponding estimating unit and a mobile terminal.
