Device for temporarily locking a rotor of the magnetically suspended type in an inertia wheel comprises a Geneva movement mechanism including an inlet of the cam type coupled to the actuator, and an outlet of the Maltese cross type possessing an axis of symmetry coinciding with the axis of rotation and turning about the axis of rotation of the rotor. The Maltese cross is coupled to a screw to transform turning motion into compound motion. Device for temporarily locking a rotor of the magnetically suspended type in an inertia wheel having a stator secured to a structure comprises a Geneva movement mechanism coupled to an actuator activated by a power source and adapted for driving it selectively in two directions of rotation. The Geneva movement mechanism includes an inlet of the cam (10) type coupled to the actuator, and an outlet of the Maltese cross type possessing an axis of symmetry coinciding with the axis of rotation and turning about the axis. The Maltese cross (12) carries an annular piece and is coupled to screw mechanism coaxial with the axis of rotation and adapted for transforming the turning motion into compound motion including a linear component to drive the annular piece in translation along the axis of rotation. While the Maltese cross is turning in a first direction, the annular piece moves towards the rotor until mechanical contact is established and drives it in translation to achieve blocking of the self-blocking type against a fixed wall to obtain the locking. While the Maltese cross is turning in an opposite direction, the annular piece releases the rotor to unlock it.
