The aerodynamic parameters of an air stream surrounding an aircraft are determined using at least two probes located on the skin of the aircraft. These are used to determine both the incidence ( alpha ) and the side slip ( beta ) of the aircraft. By comparison of the data from two probes it is possible to detect possible failure of one probe. The method for determining the aerodynamic parameters of an air stream surrounding an aircraft is based on the use of at least two probes located on the skin of the aircraft. Each probe is able to measure the local incidence, and this is used to determine both the incidence ( alpha ) and the side slip ( beta ) of the aircraft. The method also allows detection of the failure of a probe, by detecting the incidence and side slip on the basis of measurements from two probes, and using the different pressure coefficient values of each probe. This information is used in conjunction with the upstream infinite static pressure and the total pressure measurements in order to detect possible failure of a probe.
