A COMPOSITION FOR THE PROTECTION AND REGENERATION OF NEURITES CONTAINING SAIKOSAPONIN AND THE EXTRACT OF BUPLEURI RADIX

PURPOSE: A composition containing a Bupleuri Radix extract, saikosaponin or saikogenin is provided which is effective for protection, growth promotion and regeneration of a nerve cell, prevention and treatment of Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's Disease, epilepsia, paralysis, ischemia-induced encephalopathies, etc.. CONSTITUTION: Bupleurum falcatum L. is dried at ordinary temperature in the shade or in a drier at 40deg.C for 24hr, cut to a specified size and dried in a desiccator filled with silica gel for 24hr, followed by homogenizing to 10 to 20 meshes. And 200g homogenized Bupleurum falcatum L. is extracted with water at 100deg.C for 3hr. The extract enhances neurite outgrowth after administered for 3 weeks. The composition containing the extract, saikosaponin or saikogenin causes axon and dendrite to regenerate.
