1 Bacillus subtilis YS1 having antifungal activity preparation method of its mutants by gamma radiation and the mutants thereof

PURPOSE: Bacillus subtilis YS1 having antifungal activity and a method for producing a mutant thereof by irradiation are provided. The Bacillus subtilis YS1 and its mutant have broad spectrum of antifungal activity, and is, thus, useful for prevention of plant diseases caused by fungi. CONSTITUTION: The Bacillus subtilis YS1 (KFCC 11265) has the antifungal activity, wherein its optimum temperature for growth is 50 deg. C; it inhibits the growth of a plant pathogenic fungus selected from Rhizoctonia solani, Rhizoctonia solani BP, Alternaria solani, Alternaria alternata, Pythophthora capsici, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Mycosphaerella melonis, Fusarium oxysporum, Botrytis cinerea, Phythium ultimum, Botryoshaeria dothidea, and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum; it inhibits the growth of an animal pathogenic fungus, Candida albicans. Bacillus subtilis YS1-1006(KCCM-10319) having improved antifungal activity, beta-glucosidase activity and lignin-decomposing activity, and Bacillus subtilis YS1-67(KCCM-10318) having no antifungal activity are a mutant of Bacillus subtilis YS1.
