Method for Providing Position Distance and Estimated-Arrival Time Information using Mobile Communication Device having GPS Function

PURPOSE: A method for providing a position, a distance and an estimate arrival time by using a mobile communication terminal having a GPS function is provided to allow a user to know where he/she is or a position of someone's terminal. CONSTITUTION: A user(A) transfers information on the other party(B) with whom the user(A) wants to exchange position information to a central GPS server(S212). The central GPS server authenticates the registration request for the other party(B)(S213). If the other party(B) is authenticated, the central GPS server stores and registers the user(A) and the other party(B) as one information sharing group in a user database(S214). The central GPS server receives GPS signals from each GPS terminal at certain intervals and calculates positions of each terminal and stores them in a position information DB(S211). When the central GPS server receives a request of information about a position, a distance or a estimate arrival time of the other party(B)(S215), it searches the user database to check whether the user(A) and the other party(B) are in the information sharing group(S216). The central GPS server extracts the current position or the latest position information of the user(A) and the other party(B)(S218) and produces the information that the user has requested(S220,S223,S224). The GPS server generates a voice or character message including the produced information and transfers it to the user(A) and/or to the other party(B)(S225,S226).
