PURPOSE: An opposed type reciprocating compressor is provided to achieve improved performance and durability of compressor by reducing leakage and flow resistance of refrigerant. CONSTITUTION: An opposed type reciprocating compressor comprises a plurality of reciprocating motors mounted at inner both ends of a casing(1), which generate driving force; pistons coupled to movers(15a,15b) of the reciprocating motors, which reciprocate in a linear manner so as to suck and compress the refrigerant; and a cylinder(21) fixed between the reciprocating motors and coupled with the pistons in such a manner that the pistons are slidable. The cylinder has inlet ports(24a,24b) which open/shut so as to permit the refrigerant to flow through the inlet ports. The cylinder has an inner surface where suction pockets(25a,25b) are formed so as to reduce flow resistance and leakage of refrigerant and prevent compression loss.
