PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition comprising several Chinese herbal plants for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia is provided. Also provided are methods of causing neurological disease in a test animal and producing a test animal capable of being utilized in the experiment for identifying improving effect on memory and treating effect on a neurological disease. CONSTITUTION: One or more of Astragali Radix, Linderae radix, Cordyceps sinensis, Panax Ginseng, Thujae Semen, Zizyphi spinosi semen, Radix polygalae, Cnidii Rhizoma, Ramulus cinnamomi, Amomi Semen, Gleditsiae Fructus and Borneolum are blended with Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Uncariae Ramulus, Corydalis Tuber and Acori Graminei Rhizoma as an effective component, extracted and then formed into a pill. To cause a neurological disease in a test animal, 192 saporin or ibotenic acid is injected into the medial septum of the test animal.
