A new lignan compound and a hypoglycemic agent comprising the lignan compound as active ingredient

PURPOSE: Provided is a novel lignan compound with excellent activity of lowering blood sugar and broad safety range in oral and peritoneal dispensing. The compound represented by formula 1 is separated from Carduus crispus L. and formulated as an oral drug for diabetics. CONSTITUTION: The compound is prepared by extracting flower part of Carduus crispus L. with a mixed solvent of water and alcohol, concentrating the extract under pressure, taking methylene chloride fraction and carrying out chromatography and gel filtration.
