PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inserting an OSD of an EE mode in recording video and voice signals while outputting other video and voice signals are provided to set appointment recording and time in recording video and voice signals while outputting other video and voice signals. CONSTITUTION: An input unit sets recording. A control unit(120) controls output of pictures output in an EE(Electronics to Electronics) mode and insertion of an OSD(On Screen Display) into the pictures. An output selecting unit selects pictures recorded in a PB(Play Back) mode or video signals output in the EE mode. A first synchronous separating unit(160) separates a synchronous signal from video signals to be recorded in the PB mode. A second synchronous separating unit(170) separates a synchronous signal from video signals of the EE mode. A synchronous signal selecting unit(180) selects one synchronous signal from the separated synchronous signals. An OSD processing unit(190) inserts an OSD picture into the selected synchronous signal.
