PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for preventing an accident of a pedestrian on a crosswalk are provided to prevent the accident of the pedestrian or a driver by installing a laser transmission device at an existing pedestrian signal lamp. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for preventing an accident of a pedestrian on a crosswalk includes the first sensor portion(100), the second sensor portion(200), a control portion(300), and a laser output portion(400). The first sensor portion(100) outputs a sensing signal corresponding to the intensity of illumination. The second sensor portion(200) senses each state of a green lamp and a red lamp of a pedestrian signal lamp and outputs a sensing signal. The control portion(300) receives the sensing signals from the first and the second sensor portions(100,200) and outputs control signals. The laser output portion(400) receives the control signals of the control portion(300) and outputs the laser beam in response to the lighting state of the green lamp.
