PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus and a method for diagnosing sleep-induced respiratory distress syndrome are provided to improve the diagnosis of the sleep-induced respiratory distress syndrome by using a diagram representing a shape with respect to an oropharynx region. CONSTITUTION: A user interface unit(300) provides an interface with a user. A data input unit(100) inputs the multi-level of sectional image information. A storing unit(200) stores and manages the multi-level of sectional image information. A two-dimensional reference image generating unit(500) receives the multi-level of sectional image information from the storing unit(200) to generate a two-dimensional reference image based on the multi-level of sectional image information. A diagram resolution unit(600) receives the multi-level of sectional image information from the storing unit(200) to calculate sectional areas with respect to an oropharynx region by level, generates a diagram image representing a shape of the oropharynx region, and calculates a volume of the diagram image. A display unit(800) displays the sectional image information inputted through the data input unit(100) and the processed result of the two-dimensional reference image generating unit(500), the diagram resolution unit(600), and a change rate calculating unit(700). A control unit(400) controls operations of the two-dimensional reference image generating unit(500), the diagram resolution unit(600), the change rate calculating unit(700), and the display unit(800) based on information selected by a user through the user interface unit(300).
