PURPOSE: A method and a device for converting the structure of banana-shaped liquid crystal molecules doped with an azo pigment are provided to convert the alinement structure of molecules for the B7 phase of bichairal banana-shaped liquid crystal by the photoisomerization of the azo pigment and control the curved molecules of the liquid crystal by light. CONSTITUTION: A method and a device for converting the structure of banana-shaped liquid crystal molecules doped with an azo pigment includes the steps of mixing and doping an azo pigment with banana-shaped liquid crystal at a predetermined weight percentage. By implanting the banana liquid crystal doped with the azo pigment between ITO glass substrates having a predetermined gap, liquid crystal cells are formed. The banana-shaped liquid crystal becomes B7 liquid crystal phase by heating. The molecular structure of the banana-shaped liquid crystal cells becomes converted by radiating laser beams to the cells. The azo pigment contains 5wt% of methyl orange.
