PURPOSE: A method is provided to maximize cooling/heating efficiency by stabilizing cooling/heating cycle. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a first step of starting a frequency control operation upon starting of cooling or heating operation; a second step of judging whether the operation in the first step is cooling operation; the third step of judging whether the difference between the temperature of indoor air and the surface temperature of an indoor heat exchanger is maintained at a level higher than a first predetermined temperature, if the operation is judged as cooling operation; a fourth step of judging whether the difference is maintained at a level higher than a second predetermined temperature if the difference is judged as higher than the first predetermined temperature; a fifth step of judging whether the difference is higher than the second temperature if the operation is not judged as a cooling operation in the second step; a sixth step of judging whether the difference is higher than the first level if the difference is judged as higher than the second predetermined level; the seventh step of returning to the first step if it is judged in the fourth or sixth step that the difference is not higher than the second or first temperature, increasing the operating frequency by one step so as to lower the temperature of the indoor heat exchanger if it is judged in the third or fourth step that the difference is not higher than the first or second temperature, and returning to the third or fourth step; and an eighth step of increasing the operating frequency by one step and returning to the third or fourth step if the difference is not judged as higher than the first or second temperature in the fifth or sixth step.
