APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GENERATING PSEUDORANDOM QUANTITIES BASED UPON RADIO CHANNEL CHARACTERISTICS

The characteristics of the radio channel are used to set the pseudo random amount used to communicate the information. These characteristics include short-term reciprocity and fast spatial decorrelation of radio channel phases. Due to the reversibility of this radio channel characteristic, both transceivers communicating over a radio channel will generally determine the same sequence. Although the determined sequence is not always irregular enough to be used as a pseudo random function, an irregularity checker is provided to block such a sequence that is not sufficiently irregular. Exemplary pseudo random communication functions include selection of a spreading sequence in a CDMA system and selection of a hopping sequence in a TDMA or CDMA system.
