PURPOSE: Provided are stenotrophomonas maltophilia T3-c, and method for bioremediation of oil contamination(crude oil, gasoline, diesel, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene) using the strain. The strain decomposes various petroleum carbohydrates into carbon dioxide at 15-40deg.C and pH 5-8 restoring the oil contaminated soil, underground water, foreshore, beaches and the sea. The bioremediation method is carried out in an environment friendly manner at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure without using any chemicals so that second pollution does not occur. CONSTITUTION: The strain is obtained by culturing the soil sample contaminated by the oils in a nutritious agar medium; obtaining several dominant species, separating them and culturing them in a medium with inorganic sa supplying the oils as carbon source; and selecting the most capable strain T3-c in decomposing the oils, after examination of the growth and decomposition performance of each pure strain. The strain is identified as a novel strain belonging to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and named as Stenotrophomonas maltophiliaT3-c(KCTC 18036P). The bioremediation method includes the steps of: making a liquid, solid or powder type microbial preparation containing the above strain; contacting or spreading the above preparations to oils or oil contaminated area and converting the oils into carbon dioxide and eliminating; and injecting contaminated gas containing volatile organic materials into the bioreactor having suspended liquid or immobilized support of the above strain, converting them into carbon dioxide and eliminating.
