Lateral Movement Prevention Construction Method of Bridge Abutment for using Sheet piles

PURPOSE: A method for preventing the sideward movement of an abutment using a sheet pile is provided to considerably reduce the term of works and the cost of construction, to secure the safety of a bridge, and to be widely applied to various structures constructed on a soft layer. CONSTITUTION: In the construction of a bridge designed to build an abutment on a foundation pile mounted in a base layer after passing through a soft layer so as to receive the vertical loading of the abutment, steel sheet piles are successively driven at a desired point under a back fill banking material of the abutment so as to install at least one sheet pile fence of waveform beside the foundation pile, thereby it is possible to smoothly obstruct the lateral deflection pressure of the soft layer generated by the load of the back fill backing material of the abutment.
