FIELD: optionally substituted. SUBSTANCE: 1,5-bis(2-hydroxyphenoxy)-3-oxapentane monohydrate, intermediate in synthesis of crown ethers used for extraction of cesium, is prepared by bringing pyrocatechol into reaction with β, β1- dichloroethyl ether in glycerol in presence of alkali agent. Reaction is conducted in inert gas flow by adding β, β1-dichloroethyl ether to mixture of pyrocatechol, alkali agent, and glycerol in three equal portions at following consecutive temperature ranges: 20-30 C, 90- 130 C, and 140-150 C, after which product is extracted by organic solvent, preferably toluene, and additionally purified by recrystallization from acetonitrile.
