FIELD: radio engineering; multichannel radio homing, radar, sonar, and other passive and active location systems. SUBSTANCE: method using receiving antenna arrays and multichannel space-time processing of signals and systems for space-separated and polarization-separated reception to determine number of space-correlated radiation sources and to detect signals picked off outputs of N antenna-array sensors using inherent values of selective correlation matrices when noise in channels is of different power involves procedure of adaptive noise-power equalization in channels prior to executing procedure of multichannel detection and evaluation of number of space-correlated radiation sources; mentioned procedure is executed in the form of iterative search procedure of maximizing minimal inherent value of selective correlation matrix with restrictions in the form of equality with respect to trace of selective correlation matrix.
