FIELD: radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be employed to detect and identify number of spatially correlated radiation sources in radio direction finding, radiolocation, sonar, geophysical and other multichannel systems of passive and active detection and ranging of objects in which antenna arrays are used. Technical objective of invention lies in increased accuracy of determination of number of spatially correlated radiation sources and authenticity of their detection by own values of selected correlation matrixes of signals from N outputs of sensors of antenna array. This objective is achieved as N-M last own values of selected correlation matrix are fed into extrapolator to find evaluation of noise components of M first own values and evaluations of noise components are subtracted from M first own values prior to comparison with thresholds. Thresholds for M first own values are obtained by multiplication of normed thresholds by average power of noise in channels which is computed by extrapolation function. EFFECT: increased accuracy and authenticity of detection and identification of number of spatially correlated radiation sources. 1 cl
