A method for the material utilization of spent activated carbon with organic compounds

Utilising active charcoal charged with organic cpds., esp. organic halogen cpds., comprises reacting the charged charcoal with CaO and coke in an arc furnace at more than 180 deg C to Ca-carbide and oven gas consisting of CO and H2 and opt. inorganic halides. The oven gas produced is quickly cooled from the outlet temp. to 20-30 deg C. The residence time of the oven gas is 0.1-10 secs. at 450-200 deg C.
