Sonic horn of ultrasonic welding machine is brought into contact with plastic component and ultrasonic energy is transferred to the component for set period (tx). The vibration amplitude is reduced according to prescribed curve (26,30,34) and after the set period a component parameter is (in)directly measured. The sonic horn is then operated at constant amplitude for period (ty), dependent on the measured end points.
