Preparation of D-pantothenic acid and/or its alkaline earth metal salts or feedstuff additives by fermentation of Bacillus microorganisms involves enhancing, particularly overexpressing at least one nucleotide sequence coding for genes in the microorganisms. Preparation of D-pantothenic acid and/or its alkaline earth metal salts or feedstuff additives by fermenting Bacillus microorganisms involves enhancing (particularly overexpressing) at least one nucleotide sequence, which codes for the ybbT-ORF, ywkA-ORF, yjmC-ORF, ytsJ-ORF, mdh gene, cysK gene, iolJgene, pdhD gene, yuiE-ORF, dhas gene, adk gene, yusH-ORF, yqhJ-ORF, yqhK-ORF or yqhI-ORF in the microorganisms, concentrating the D-pantothenic acid and/or its salts in the fermentation broth or in the cells of the microorganisms; and isolating the product. The biomass and/or further constituents of the fermentation broth are left in the product or optionally separated off completely or partly (0-100)%.
