The pressure compensated switching valve (20) for a motor vehicle internal combustion engine fuel injection system has a housing (2) for a valve needle (21). The valve needle is surrounded by two chambers (22,23) connected by a ring space (34) with a seat bore (35). The valve needle has a stepped bore (31) defining a throttled connection between the chambers.
