The system has a modulated optical amplifier that compensates the parasitic amplitude modulation of the transmission laser. Optical amplifiers of semiconducting material are used before the photodiodes of the data receiver and the input polarization of the optical amplifier is regulated, e.g. for maximum gain. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a PMD compensation device for bi-directional operation.
