The device has an axially movable actuator with a magnetisable armature and at least one electromagnet that interacts with the armature for translational movement of the armature from one position to another in which its is held by the electromagnet. All interactive pole faces of the armature and electromagnet are arranged coaxially with respect to each other and are cylindrical surfaces whose radius differs by the size of the working air gap. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of controlling an inventive device and a method of operating an inventive device.
