Method for generation of weather data for a motor vehicle navigation system in which a driver enters a destination and a route is automatically planned. Weather information is input from primary, i.e. an official weather forecast, and secondary, i.e. observations by drivers in the area, sources. If the two sources are consistent it is indicated to the driver that weather or road conditions in a forthcoming area are as indicated or highly probably as indicated.
