Method for detection of the 3-D position of a medical instrument inserted into a body area, whereby at least three radiographic markers are attached in known positions so that the position can be determined from a 2-D projection
Method whereby at least three markings are attached to the instrument for identification by a radiographic device. Accordingly at least a 2-D projection of the body area is obtained, the radiation opaque markings are identified in the projection, the spatial coordinates of the three markings are determined from the positions in the projection and the projection matrix corresponding to the matrix taking into account the known geometrical arrangement of the markings relative to each other. An Independent claim is made for a device for determining the position of an instrument inserted into a body, area, whereby the device essentially comprises a C-frame X-ray imaging apparatus and associated signal processing.
