The device has a wiper arm, which is adjustable between a rest position and a raised wiping position. The wiper arm (4) is adjustable in axial direction of the wiper shaft (5) driving it. The arm may be fastened to the shaft and moved with it. It is raised against a return spring (15), and is adjusted by an adjuster arm (17), which is fastened pivoted to the vehicle. The adjuster arm is contained in a recess in an engine bonnet and its top surface (22) is aligned with the bonnet.
