Vehicle windscreen wiper device has two wiper arms (2, 3), a wiper motor (6) and a wiper blade (5), whereby the wiper arms are coupled to the vehicle body via a linkage (2a, 3a) at one end. The body linkage of at least one of the arms can be held in at least a rest position that is different from all the positions of the arm when it is operating, i.e. moving over the screen.
