Leather seasoning agent based on (meth)acrylic acid and acrylic acid/alkanol esters, useful for the surface treatment of leather and for application to furniture and automobile upholstery

Leather seasoning agent based on (meth)acrylic acid and acrylic acid/alkanol esters. A leather seasoning agent containing (wt.%): (a) dispersed copolymerisate A (20-60), (a1) at least one ester A1 of methacrylic acid with 1-8C alkanols (40-70), (a2) at least one ester A2 of acrylic acid with 1-8C alkanols (25-60), (a3) 3-6C alpha,beta-monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid A3 (0-3.5), and (a4) at least one further adjuvant monomer A4, e.g. hydroxypropyl acrylate, ureidomethacrylate, acrylamide, methacrylamide, N-methylol-acrylamide, N-methylol methacrylamide, where the sum of A1, A2, and optionally A3 and/or A4 = 100 wt.%; (b) at least 40 wt.% water (B); and (c) polyurethane leather seasoning agent C (0-40). Independent claims are included for: (1) a process for preparation of a leather seasoning agent by emulsion or stepwise polymerization of monomers A, A2, and optionally A3 and/or A4 to give an aqueous dispersion of copolymerisate A, and optionally mixing with polyurethane leather seasoning agent C; and (2) a leather with a seasoning agent or top coat of copolymerisate A from (a1) to (a4) as above.
