The braking characteristics improvement method uses detection and regulation of the actual braking moment provided by the hydrodynamic retarder, using a force sensor for measuring the reaction force of the stator (10) of the hydrodynamic retarder. An Independent claim for a device for determining the braking moment of an automobile hydrodynamic retarder is also included.
