Component has a contact surface (04) for contacting with a solid, pasty, liquid and/or gaseous medium (05), especially a raw material or intermediate product of a brewing process, e.g. mash or wort. The contact surface is made from a material having a surface energy of less than 300 mN/m, especially less than 50 mN/m. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the component. Preferably the component is made from a support material, especially steel, on which a coating (03) forming the contact surface is arranged. The coating has a thickness of 1-10 microns and is resistant to acids and alkalis and is heat resistant up to at least 300 deg C. The coating is a carbon layer made from a high crosslinked carbon matrix containing silicon atoms.
