Method of operating a stringed instrument such as electric guitar, by detecting time at which conductive plectrum makes contact with string from electrical connection

The method involves determining which of the strings (20) of the stringed instrument are contacted or stroked at what time point. The direction of the contact or stroke (forward or backward) is also determined. To detect the time point of contact, the time at which an at least partially conductive plectrum contacts the string is determined. Alternatively, strain gauges in the plectrum, or piezo-pressure sensors in the bridge or saddle, or in the plectrum may be used to determine the contact time point. Independent claims are also included for a stringed instrument, and for an arrangement with a stringed instrument and synthesizer.
