The method involves converting a sensor signal into a rectangular pulse signal, measuring each pulse duration and determining an especially weighted mean of duration of a current value and a preceding value. The values are separated by a time interval or defined step size. A correction factor is determined from any deviation between a current value and a respective mean. A correction method step size is adapted to an error order of a fault. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: an arrangement for monitoring the state of a wheel.
