Assembly for non-contact measurement of bio-physical parameters in vegetation growth comprises: (A) a spectral narrow band spot or strip of light directed at the vegetation from a transmitter (1), with at least two flash lamps (2) in rapid succession; (B) a transmitter (1); (C) a receiver (3); and (D) detector (8). Assembly for non-contact measurement of bio-physical parameters in vegetation growth comprises: (a) a spectral narrow band spot or strip of light directed at the vegetation from a transmitter (1), with at least two flash lamps (2) in rapid succession; (b) a transmitter (1) comprising: (i) a reference detector (8) to give the flash energy; (ii) a thermal sensor (13) for correction of the temperature alterations of the flash light composition; (iii) an optical lens system (6) to focus the light at the vegetation; and (iv) a flash control (7); (c) a receiver (3) comprising: (i) a single photo-diode (9) with a broadband filter (10) and an optical lens (11) to focus the diode field of view; (ii) a thermal sensor (16) to correct temperature-related alterations of the diode sensitivity; (iii) an amplifier (18) to arrange the wavelengths of the flash light and reflection signals; and (iv) a detection control (12); and (d) a detector (8). The light flashes are at given wavelengths, and are passed through filters (5) to separate out unwanted wavelengths. The detector (8) and flash controls (7) are connected to an evaluation unit (15) to process the reflection and fluorescence signals.
