The machine for forming and heat-sealing bags from plastic sheet has sealing jaws (23, 24), at least one of which has bores (33) on its inner surface which can be connected to a vacuum pump. These are positioned opposite the sections (7) of the bag (15) with fewest layers. An Independent claim is included for a method for forming and sealing plastic bags using the machine.
