Method in which the current SAR value is determined by comparison of the current measurement position with measurement positions stored in a database for which SAR values were calculated and stored. From the position comparison the nearest matching reference measurement position is selected and, if necessary, the SAR value is adjusted or scaled to compensate for differences in patient data, e.g. size. An Independent claim is included for a corresponding magnetic resonance imaging system.
