The transport device has a holder (1) with a floor (8) for the humans or objects to be transported that is pivotably mounted on a bearer rod (2) about an axle (3) and is held on the bearer rod and a coupling arrangement (4,5,5') that holds the floor of the holder essentially horizontal during the pivotal motion. The coupling arrangement is in the form of gear wheels on the axle and holder.
