4-Benzylidenamino-1,2,4-triazine derivatives (I) and their salts and solvates are new. 4-Benzylidenamino-1,2,4-triazine derivatives of formula (I) and their salts and solvates are new; R1, R2 = hydrogen, hydroxy, OR6, SR6, SOR6, SO2R6, halo or together form methylenedioxy; A = phenyl, pyridyl, 4- or 5-pyrimidyl, 3- or 4-pyridazyl or 2- or 3-pyrazinyl, all optionally substituted by R3 and R4; R3, R4 = R6 or as defined for R1 and R2; R5 = hydrogen or 1-10C alkyl; R6 = 1-10C alkyl, optionally substituted by 1-5 fluoro and/or chloro, 3-7C cycloalkyl, 5-10C alkylenecycloalkyl or 2-8C alkenyl; halo = fluoro, chloro, bromo or iodo. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method for the preparation of (I); and (2) intermediates of formula (III), excluding the compound where A = unsubstituted phenyl. All other definitions are as above.
