The roller device has at least two rollers (14, 16) wherein the axle (20) of the rear roller engages in an angled slide guide (22) and is loaded by a first spring unit (41) into a stable drive position in which the rotation of the rollers is unimpeded. By deflecting the axle in the slide guide against the spring force the rear roller is moved into a position where it interacts with a brake unit (28) and becomes loaded by same. The brake unit can be formed by strips engaging on the circumference of the at least one rear roller.
