The medical investigation device has an essentially tubular investigation chamber (2) and a stereoscopic image carrier (4), especially one with no metal content, arranged in the field of view of the patient (1) so as to simulate a larger volume. Illumination is provided by a remote light source (7) via an optical fiber (6). The stereoscopic image carrier contains two sub-images distributed in a pair of stereoscopic spectacles and is in the form of a stereoscopic photograph, which may be holographic, in which case the illumination source is a laser.
