The control apparatus has a control device with a first microcomputer (1) for controlling communication with other control devices and for processing control functions. A second microcomputer (2) in the control device is provided for processing data. An interface (3,7,11) between the microcomputers is used to transmit the control data, processed with high processing requirement, from the fist to the second microcomputer to control the vehicle functions. A device determines the duration of control processes. An Independent claim is also included for a method of controlling control functions in a vehicle.
