System for coating the surface of a metal strip (12) with a molten coating material (1) comprises: a coating cell (7) having a channel with a gap with a larger dimensions than the width of and the thickness of the strip to be coated; and feeding units (4) for introducing molten coating material from a heated melting vessel (2) into the coating cell. The channel of the coating cell is formed as a coating channel through which the metal strip is guided and through which the molten coating material flows. The feeding units comprise at least one flow channel (13) integrated into the coating cell having openings (14) at one end. The openings extend along the metal strip width. An induction pump (6a, 6b) is arranged along the feed channels of the feeding units to convey the coating material. Preferred Features: A supply vessel (3) for the molten coating material is arranged between the melting vessel and the feed channels. An Independent claim is also included for a process for operating the system.
