A display shows the vertical distance of the grip (2) from a pre-set ideal or target line (16,17), the targets depending on the positions of the grip in the horizontal plane of movement and also a function of the direction of movement. The resistance to the two-way movement of the grip depends on the grip distance as specified and found. The performance or work value of the grip reciprocating movement is corrected depending on the grip as displayed (7).
