Device for generating a signal indicative of the breathing gas flow if a pipe, whereby the sensor comprises a signaling device in the form of a fiber optic element that is deflected by the flow in the pipe. The light transmitted through the fiber optic element is detected by a photoelectric sensor array, with its position on the 2-D array indicative of the deflection.
