The pipe coupling has a coupling block formed by a connector (10) encompassed by a sealing ring, and a socket (11) to receive the connector. The sealing ring is an O-ring and bears against the conical edge face (17) of the connector socket. The edge face has a cone angle of approximately 18 degrees. A guard ring is fastened to the free end of the connector. At least two sealing rings may be fitted in corresponding grooves in the connector, whereby the O-ring bearing upon the conical edge face of the connector socket has a larger diameter.
